About EDPJC

The El Dorado Peace Community was established in the late 1970s and first began as part of an effort to pass a Nuclear Freeze Initiative in California. 

From its beginning through the mid '90s, we organized around issues of war and peace, and the struggles for self-determination of the peoples of Central America. In 1996, we established the Peace & Justice Concert Series that produced over a dozen politically oriented concerts  between 1996 and 2000. In early 2002, we began organizing to prevent the threatened war in Iraq and established ourselves as a non-profit 501(3)(c). 

We have proudly sponsored several other community organizations as they were developing legs of their own:

• El Dorado Round Table for Human Rights,
• PFLAG Placerville

The primary focus of the EDPJC is producing two major annual events:

• The Empty Bowls Supper, and
• The Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration (January)

Both events have been produced and well-attended for more than 25 years.

Always eagerly anticipated and supported, these events are important local actions and statements. They are truly galvanizing events which educate, carry important messages, strengthen our resolve, inspire positive activism, and foster a strong sense of affirmation and unity - as well as offer fun and fellowship!
