El Dorado Peace & Justice Community

ESTABLISHED IN 1977

The El Dorado Peace Community was established in the late 1970s and first began as part of an effort to pass a Nuclear Freeze Initiative in California.

From its beginning through the mid 90s, we organized around issues of war and peace, and the struggles for self-determination of the peoples of Central America. In 1996, we established the Peace & Justice Concert Series that produced over a dozen politically oriented concerts  between 1996 and 2000. In early 2002, we began organizing to prevent the threatened war in Iraq and established ourselves as a non-profit (503c).

Our focus is on working and organizing locally for a more just and peaceful world. We are always looking for people who want to join us in our effort and for ideas and suggestions to increase our capacity and effectiveness, so please consider getting involved in our efforts.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO RESUMING OUR IN-PERSON EVENTS!

A simple meal of soup and bread.
The bowl is a tangible reminder of hunger in the world.

For more than two decades, we have organized the Empty Bowls Supper, which has grown to be a much revered annual event. The event raises funds for both local and international agencies, and provides much needed awareness of hunger-related issues. Featuring handmade bowls, good food, live music, dessert and wine, silent auction...and plenty of fun and great community spirit!  In 2019, our annual event welcomed and served approximately 1,000 participants and raised $30,000.  Hunger remains an issue - EVEN DURING A PANDEMIC, so beginning in 2020 we have temporarily shifted our format....but not our mission and spirit with the eat-at-home, Dinner for a Cause!
